Have you ever been at home, wanting to make dinner a little more special?  Or add a little bit of pizzazz to your everyday lunch by allowing your tongue a whole new sensation of flavors?  Then do we have quite the treat for you! Here at Dawn’s Country Market, we have an excellent spice bar stocked with spices and teas from Frontier: Natural Products Co-op.  Besides the obvious fun in experimenting with spices, there are several benefits that spices and teas can provide you with.  As an added bonus, Frontier makes an extra effort in order to make sure these spices stay plentiful.

Several herbs and spices can serve not only as a way to entice the pallet, but also for medicinal purposes.  For instance, ginger root is great to help settle an upset stomach, or to even help prevent it from occurring in the first place.  To continue cures for calming the stomach, caraway root is also a good alternative.  Do you have low zinc, iron, or chromium, or selenium levels?  If so, then you should think about using brown mustard as a supplement in your meals to help make these element levels rise in your body.

Goji berries are excellent in tea, and have been used for centuries in Chinese medicine.  If you would like to add some extra spice, then think about picking up some chili or cayenne pepper for that bite of heat that you have been seeking!

All of the teas provided by the Frontier company are all natural ingredients that can help aide in calming such as chamomile or provide an invigorating aroma such as their Forever Fruit Tea blend.  Not only do these teas help provide an extra boost to your day or night, but are excellent both warm or cold.  On top of this, Frontier is also dedicated in protecting herbs that are in danger of being over-harvested so that these delicious teas, herbs, and spices can continue to be a part of our everyday lives.

If this little sneak-peek gets your curiosity going, then come on down here to Dawn’s Country Market and check out all of the herbs, spices, and teas that we have to offer!  Or if you are interested in finding out more about the types of products that Frontier has to offer, then visit their website that we have attached at the end of this blog.  Stay tuned for more updates, and we look forward to seeing you down here at the farm!

For those of you who are not aware, we at Dawn’s Country Market like to make available to our neighbors and guests the best local goods that can be found.  One of our items that we take particular pride in is our local honey.  Naturally made, and very good for you, honey is a very simple product that most enjoy in tea and can be added into recipes.  However, we would like to share with you some facts about honey and honeybees that you may have not known before!

Honey is produced by the sexually underdeveloped female honeybees whom are also responsible for creating the honeycomb and collecting the pollen.  These bees create honey through regurgitation of nectar that they collect as they pollinate flowers.  For those bees that are kept by beekeepers, the beekeepers will often times relocate the hives during the winter and will generally keep anywhere between twenty-five to 299 hives.

Looking for a good source of carbohydrates?  Honey is your answer!  It consists mostly of glucose and fructose but is also a good source of several vitamins and minerals, as well as antioxidants.  Due to this, it is an excellent source of energy to just help you get your day started or if you need a little pizzazz to get you ready for a workout.  It also helps fight against microbacteria.  Honey also has no expiration date.  If it starts to crystallize, all you have to do is heat it up and it goes back to its thick, liquid form.

There you have it!  Honey is pretty great stuff, and it is a great addition to anyone’s pantry.  So come on by, and support your local beekeepers.  We have plenty here on the shelf, and we sure would appreciate the company.

As the final bout of winter retreats and spring comes back full-force with an arsenal of daffodils and tulips, we at Dawn’s Country Market are excited to get the summer season started.  It’s been a long winter, but so far the coming of spring has brought us several exciting editions that we cannot wait to share with everyone around us!

Over the course of the winter, two of our goats gave birth to a total of three healthy kids and as of Friday, April 19th our new potbelly pig gave birth to eight beautiful piglets!  We are currently in the process of building the pigs their own enclosure since on top of our new mama and her little ones, we also adopted four other pigs over the course of the off season.  All of them are doing very well, but we are looking forward to giving our new farm family members their own place.  In addition, we also have some new chicks that have been wandering around and Wally has put one-hundred-fifty eggs into the incubator that are getting ready to hatch.

Smokin’ D’z is about to re-open in the near future as well as Kim’s Clean-Cut Dog Grooming.  Please stop on by and visit the animals, browse the store, get a bite to eat, and get your pet groomed all at once.  More details will be coming soon on exactly when we are going to be opening full-time.  We are currently open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 8:00am to 5:00pm.  Can’t wait to see you all there, and look for more updates right here on what’s going down at the farm.  Can’t wait to see you all here!
